You can really tell that the people playing these songs have never really listened to what they are trying to cover. That or the just don’t care. They just took every note that TOOL plays and played it exactly. How is that a tribute? It’s just a regurgitation on instruments that the song was never written to be played on. If they wanted to do it right, it would have been a lot of work. They would have had to go through each song and essentially rewrite it to work in the new format. I suspect, however, that this was just four guys looking to make some cash quick and easy, which it looks like they’re doing.

What’s really funny is that they picked just about the worst band to do this with. I would say that most of TOOL comes from the interaction between Maynard and Danny. This version strips out all of that and all your left with is a garbled mess. I love classical (baroque mainly), but this is really just terrible. It’s not classical, it’s not TOOL, it’s not anything worth listening to.

Maynard and the boys put a whole lot more work into layering their compositions than this dinky string quartet did. Though well-done classical Tool would blow me away, doing it right requires a full-out symphony orcestra. Ever heard the London Philharmonic do Pink Floyd? Yeah, like that.

i gave this one star simply because the songs are tool songs.
I am a huge tool fan and also a fan string arrangements.
neither the the strings or the songs written by tool
are done justice by this album.
you want mellow tool? get some of the remixes or go buy a perfect circle.

2.5 STARS

im an avid tool fan, and a fan of maynards various projects like apc and puscifer, so i know that his music is hard to live up to. this just didnt cut the mustard. the songs ar alright on their own but you can barely tell that its tool, i was expecting more along the lines of apocalyptica’s tributes to metallica. they remain heavy but still keep the string sound. i recommend that over this any day.

all in all if you’re a classical fan, this might help you get into tool, but not vice versa.

I just bought it today and I’m really liking it. I’ve listened to it a couple times, and it’s really catchy. I normally wouldn’t listen to any orchestra music at all ’cause it’s just not nearly heavy enough for me. But if you’re a Tool fan, this stuff is really catchy. There’s even songs on here that I don’t know all the lyrics to (yes, I know, I feel ashamed as a Tool fan), and when I hear the music, it reminds me of the lyrics and I can sing along. But it’s also different and offers a new way to look at Tool’s music. It doesn’t go verse by verse so it’s not like they just replicated each song in orchestra music, but some parts of it are just like Tool’s music, and keep you on track with the song. So you can sort of follow the original song while you’re listening to the new one and try to figure out where to place all the words. It’s a really interesting adventure for a Tool fan. Otherwise, if you’re not into orchestra music, I definitely wouldn’t reccomend it.
